The Reciprocal Relationship Between Custom And Shariain Minangkabau Culture

Abstract

The Minangkabau people are known for their strong cultural customs,
have a strong philosophy of life, namely adat basandi syara’, syara’
basandi Kitabullah, Alam takambang jadi guru. This philosophy of life
reflects the close relationship between customs and Islamic teachings in
people's lives. This article aims to analyze the reciprocal relationship
between customs and sharia in Minangkabau, and how these two things
interact and adapt in socio-cultural dynamics. The method used is a
literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of
the study show that customs and sharia influence and adapt to each
other, where customs that live in the midst of Minangkabau society must
be in harmony with Islamic law. This relationship is dynamic, as
evidenced by the process of adapting customs to Islamic teachings since
the 12th century until now. This integration makes Minangkabau an
example of an indigenous society that is able to maintain traditional
values without ignoring religious principles
